Good Shepherds

Every year at this time we revisit this passage in John where Jesus says, “I am the good shepherd.” John 10:11. This passage is also tied to Psalm 23, bringing in numerous images of shepherd and their sheep throughout the Old Testament. The role of the shepherds fills Israel’s history. Jesus uses these images to make some significant changes to faith and the way we approach faith today. Understanding these changes reveals dynamics in our relationship with the holy. To live faithfully, one must be able to respond to the idea that Jesus is still the shepherd.
